I've been a bad tumblr
Things have been so busy since we arrived here that I haven’t had much chance to do any kind of posting. I wouldn’t feel so bad except I don’t feel like I’ve really accomplished much since we got here a week ago. I’ve moved things around, and managed to get *some* things in place, but the balcony is still covered in unopened boxes and our rooms are still obstacle...
I’m taking my first solo train ride to the university for lunch with Mindy. I walked (okay, and even jogged a little) from the apartment to the station. I’m a big boy now!
SST
My SST today is the woman who has literally been within arm’s reach since midday Saturday. I have been sick that whole time, yet she has taken care of me. Now she is sick and it’s my turn to care for her.
I don’t recommend traveling while sick, by the way.
I do, however, recommend holding hands as you drive down the road, if conditions allow it. :-)
New grandson!
He was born about an hour ago, and all I know is that his name is Logan, and he and my daughter are doing fine. More once I have more. :-)
Truthful Tuesday (stuck halfway edition)
I’m heading into week two of whatever illness this is, in spite of Dayquil, Nyquil and two different varieties of TheraFlu. And of course Mindy has it now, so we’re both miserable. However, I have to admit I’m glad we’re not driving while feeling this bad… Saturday and Sunday, though short driving days, were still pretty hard on us.
Leaving Alabama was both harder...
Okay, so not so delayed.
You gotta love how, when you pay for something by check, it’s instantaneous, but if you *deposit* a check… you have to wait 40 days and 40 nights.
We’re enjoying the limited hospitality of Kansas City for a few days, and will continue the adventure on Thursday. At least it will give both of us a chance to rid our bodies of whatever nasty bug has been affecting me since last...

Random (and not so random) morning bullets
It is my darling Mindy’s birthday today. Just saying.
She is on a plane heading to move me home this weekend.
I have a luncheon here (the annual staff Christmas luncheon) at 11:30
At 1:00 I will pick up the moving truck
At 2:00 l will drive to Birmingham to pick Mindy up at the airport
We will drive back down here, change into something a little bit dressier and meet Cathy’s...
I gave the keys to the house back to Cathy tonight
And now I’m just another guest who has to knock on the door.
That gesture, last year, always meant a complete severance, and never lasted more than a couple of hours. Even then we knew we needed our friendship to last.
This time the keys are gone for good, but it is not a severance at all. It was sad handing them to her, but I don’t expect her to be living there much longer anyway....
Down to the wire, boys and girls
I’m not going to be around much this week, my friends. I am here in the office through Friday, so all of those tasks that I’ve been working on need to come to some sort of conclusion. So my days are going to be focused on completion here.
My nights? My sister and brother-in-law are in town, so I have dinner with them, two of my girls and my ex tonight. Wednesday I have dinner and...

Charles, the guy I’ve mentioned here before as being more my brother than my friend, told me last week that he wanted to take me out to dinner tonight, just he and I, as our last hurrah before I leave. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. It looks like I’ll have to ask for them again later, because the doctor had the due date off by about a month… at 15-16 weeks, with a tilted uterus, it is too early for them to determine the sex. Oh well.
She wanted me to make sure to thank all of you, so the thanks come from both of us. Let’s try it again in January, okay?
Asking a favor
My oldest daughter is supposed to find out the sex of her baby this morning at 10 CST. She is extremely anxious about this, understandably, since if it is a boy there is a 50/50 chance of him having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. If it is a girl, there is still a 50/50 chance of the girl getting the mutated dystrophin gene, but that would just make her a carrier and is not fatal.
